METRO EAST PARK AND RECREATION DISTRICT TO HOST BIKE MONTH CELEBRATION

The Metro East Park and Recreation District (MEPRD) is celebrating Bike Month on Saturday, May 14 by offering local cyclists complimentary breakfast treats at the MEPRD Trailhead, located at 104 United Drive in Collinsville, from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m.

The event will feature other biking related activities and giveaways. Local radio station Y98 FM will also be on site at the event playing music and spreading the word about its new Sprite Refreshing Communities Partnership, which encourages area residents to turn in green Sprite tabs in support of park and trail beautification projects in the Metro East.

“The Metro East has wonderfully interconnected parks and trails in Madison and St. Clair counties that continue to evolve,” commented Mike Buehlhorn, executive director of MEPRD. “The goal of our event is simple – to encourage area residents and families to take advantage of area parks and trails during Bike Month and throughout the year.”

The Metro East Park and Recreation District (MEPRD) was formed by voters in November 2000, and is responsible for the development of parks, greenways, and trails in Madison County and St. Clair County, Illinois. The District often supplements the efforts of local governments, special districts, and other jurisdictions already engaged in the management of parks and recreation facilities. The park district is the first of its kind in Illinois, serving over half a million residents.
